The phrase "checks and balances" refers to the idea that no one branch of government can do something without any other branch of government being able to review that action and, possibly, stop it. Thus, the legislature can pass a law, but the President can veto it - that veto power is a check against the power to pass laws. However, the legislature can pass a bill over a presidential veto, so long as there are enough votes. Thus, that power is another check against the President's veto power. These checks create a balance of power, where no one branch of government has too much authority. ~Ask.com
The legislative branch has a very important authority due to the fact that they make the laws! Without them to check the judicial branches, there might be decisions that are unconstitutional and harmful to all the beautiful people in the U.S.A. The legislative branch can make laws, but they have to be approved. This is how the other two branches are able to check the LB! Another interesting deal, is that people employed in the LB can stay for as long as they want or until they die! I wonder how many corpses they found hanging out in the fancy chair room!! Anyway, Legislative does have its set backs. It has restricted powers, like the above example of bills to be approved, but also the fact it can only override a veto with two thirds vote. That may not seem like a lot, but it is.
Now, with all these checking and balancing and such, we all come to a time in our lives and ask our selves: Did I leave the oven on? Is Jennifer Aniston ever going to find a hubby? Are penguins going to destroy us all? But most important..... Is Democracy dead?
I'd like to think not, but there are some things that make me feel differently at times. I'm not going to rant, don't worry.
I think I have the most faith in the Legislative branch just for the fact it needs approval from other branches and that decisions are not always final. That makes me feel like a citizen again. It makes me feel that someone is looking out for the best for this country and the inhabitants.

Signs are from Hell
So the other day, I'm talking to my mommy and she's in a political mood. (I REALLY hate those.) So I decided to ask who she voted on because she had just sent the ballot in the mail.
She voted for McCain....... And my mom has put up signs on our lawn.
Crap. Please don't beat up the girl that comes out of the McCain Palin house, okay? I need my spleen four years from now.

The Presidential Debate
More like a Presidential Disappointment.
You see, I'd much rather see two children argue than two grown men argue. It's much cuter. Honestly, I know I could of found better information in their ads that attack each other. I'm so tired of those..

What To Do?
So the presidential debate is happening tonight, and honestly, I don't know who I want. Both VP candidates lied one way or another, so how would someone with more power take that? Don't tell me "that's politics" because I'm fully aware of that, and it makes me sick to be an american when people lie to get others to favor what they think. I do not understand why in any way lying to manipulate is patriotic.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I like hearing the truth, especially if the truth is coming from someone which WILL BE RUNNING OUR COUNTRY. I'm sorry, but I do not want the wool pulled over my eyes. I'm too smart for that and I'm being treated like an idiot.
Why do I feel like an idiot? Because politicians think we're dumb enough to believe what they feed us.
What's your opinion on our government today? How do the polictian's actions make you mad or just sad?

Indigo Lynx and the VP debate
So the Vice Presidential debate is tonight at seven! I'm very excited. Personally, I have decided to listen to both sides before I make my very final decision on who should be VP, but I want to hear the other people (Or Indigo Lynxes!) opinions and where they stand!

In the Beginning.......
In this blog, Indigo Lynx will express feelings which might prove confusing to people not versed in the politics of 2008.

What is Democracy? Below is a list that was conjured up in the process of opinions and quotes:
1.) Democracy is not perfect, but it is better than other forms of governement, like dictatorship, for example.
2.) The people can speak of their ideas freely.
3.) Democracy is based on trust between government and citizens.
4.) The people and Government must work together for it to work.
5.) Liberty and Equality
6.) Changes with the people and by the people.
7.) People active, to be citizens, not spectators.
8.) Individual Beliefs.
9.) Government and people are the same
The quote I recieved was by Aristotle, a very interesting individual:
"If liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in Democracy, they will be best attained when all persond alike share government in the utmost."
Now, closing with something to excercise your lovely brains with, I challenge you to think about how Democracy, (If you don't think we're in a Democracy, state why you think that) has influenced you personally or someone else.
